BSA|The Software Alliance (www.bsa.org) is the leading advocate for the global software industry before governments and in the international marketplace. Its members are among the world’s most innovative companies, creating software solutions that help businesses of all sizes in every part of the economy to modernize and grow.

With headquarters in Washington, DC, and operations in more than 30 countries, BSA pioneers compliance programs that promote legal software use and advocates for public policies that foster technology innovation and drive growth in the digital economy.

From 2014 to 2019, PHAM Communications proudly represented BSA as its official PR agency in Vietnam.

Challenge

In 2004, BSA, alongside major members like Microsoft and Autodesk, launched a campaign aimed at reducing software copyright infringement rates in Vietnam, which were notably high at 92% at the time. The goal of BSA and its members was to roll out educational and communication programs advocating the use of licensed software. Mrs. Hoa Pham, founder of Pham Communications, was involved with this campaign from its early days until 2019, serving as the person in charge of all BSA’s communication activities.

Results

After five continuous years, featuring dozens of press conferences, seminars, and large-scale conferences in collaboration with the government held in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, coupled with thousands of PR coverages in Vietnam’s major mainstream media, the software piracy rate in Vietnam has significantly decreased.

Since the campaign began in 2004, Vietnam’s software piracy rate has reduced from 92% to 74% by 2019. The notable reduction in software piracy during these years correlates with the strong growth of BSA member software companies in the Vietnamese market, such as Microsoft, Autodesk, PTC, etc.
